Wacky Weekend Weather (and some mushrooms)

16 11 2009

What a crazy weekend! Starting with Friday where it was windy, pouring rain, sunshine, pouring hail and then just cold. Then we had Saturday, not to bad a little rain but doable. And then came Sunday night WOWZA that is the windiest it has ever been here. Our windows were rattling and we are in a newer house. We did lose part of our deck railing it smacked into the side of the house and just missed our window by inches.
I took a great walk this weekend and of course forgot my camera and missed a bunch of great photo ops but did have my camera when Tom and I were visiting a friend and got some great mushroom pictures.

our Hail "snow" Friday

The hail "snow" from Friday.

The aftermath of the wind storm...deck railing flew off and smacked into the side of the house narrrowly missing a window and miraculously doing very little damage.

The really cool mushrooms

Tom and Picard have the right idea when it is stormy outside.

Something to think about for Monday Morning

16 11 2009

2009 10 14 Pinehurst sunset 013

A friend sent this along to me. I know it probably might be a little  controversial but it certainly made me think…

”I know many of you will say, “this is impossible.”  Let me remind you, Congress has the lowest approval of any entity in Government, now is the time when Americans will join together to reform Congress – the entity that represents us.
We need to get a Senator to introduce this bill in the
US Senate and a Representative to introduce a similar bill in the US House.  These people will become American heros.

Congressional Reform Act of 2009

1. Term Limits: 12 years only, one of the possible options below.
A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.  The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

2.  No Tenure / No Pension:
A congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.  The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

3.  Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security:
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund moves to the Social Security system immediately.  All future funds flow into the Social Security system, Congress participates with the American people.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.  The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, server your term(s), then go home and back to work.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan just as all Americans..
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.  The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.  Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.  The Founding Fathers envisioned  citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.  The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

7. Congress must equally abide in all laws they impose on the American people.
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.  The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

8. All contracts with past and present congressmen are void effective 1/1/10.
The American people did not make this contract with congressmen, congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.  The Founding Fathers envisioned  citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.”

Wanderlust …From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Wanderlust is a strong desire for or impulse to wander or, in modern usage, to travel  and to explore the world… A more contemporary equivalent for the English wanderlust in the sense of “love of travel” would be Fernweh (literally “an ache for the distance”)
So lately have been yearning to travel and explore. I was one of those people that should have traveled the world or at least the US before settling down to college. I have absolutely no regrets that I did not as I met my husband in my college town and our paths would have never crossed if I had not done the whole go off to college thing (which I never finished my degree so one more thing to put on the bucket list). So again no regrets just wishful thinking. I sometimes look at “traveler jobs for PTA’s (one of the many things Tom does) and dream of traveling around the country rent free. I want to be one of those people that has stayed at least a week in every state. Hey 50 weeks that isn’t to bad, that is what like a year? I don’t do math in my head…
Like I said I just look as it would be totally irresponsible and stupid to do something like that at this point in our lives. Tom’s Massage therapy practice and his real estate practice are both just starting to really blossom and need to be constantly nourished like the hungry baby businesses that they are….and that means not leaving Bellingham anytime soon. I also have a job I love, a boss I adore and could not even think of leaving that anytime soon. So yes I know how to be responsible…it doesn’t mean I don’t stare at the maps and pictures of places I would like to visit. I guess I will plan on being a RV’er when I am old and gray. Something to look forward to…For now I take short trips like the day trip we took to Snohomish the other weekend. Got to see some beautiful country and fulfill my Fernweh.

just one of those days…

8 11 2009

Ok so it started out bad that Tom and I had a tiff. Yes we do argue occasionally. I had asked him to do something and he claimed to have forgotten and I accused him of selective memory loss and yadda yadda yadda. I don’t fight well. I fight really dirty and bad. I am not a good fighter…poor Tom…

Then I went to go get my crockpot chicken stew going and I had let the chicken defrost one to many days it is smelled funny so I had to toss it. What and expensive and stupid mistake. So it is off to Haggen to get more chicken. As I am just going to run in and out right? so no need to brush my hair and I can just throw on my ratty old sweatshirt as it is Sunday morning and who will be shopping on Sunday morning? Right?. Crap,
Hi Heather, Hi Teri, normally my hair isn’t wild straw hair tucked under a hat and normally I do put on non torn clothes…So I of course by 10 more things in addition to the chicken as I am there and I have already run into 2 people I know so what the heck guess I will do a little shopping.
I get home get groceries away and start cutting up the chicken breasts. Well they are so full of blood vessels it makes me start thinking vegetarianism is the way to go…then I start thinking about giving up steak and Boomers chicken strips and I keep hacking out all the gross bits. The dogs think this is great as they get all the nasty bloody pieces.
So now I am sitting here writing instead of jumping in the shower and getting ready to go look at houses with Tom. I better get my butt in gear and turn this day around.
Positives: it  is not raining, the crock pot is stuffed with Chicken, veges, squash and barley and Amazing race is on tonight.

Who I am want to win below :)

Sponge Offense

The Culprit

I work in a very small office. It is just My boss, her nurse and me. We share this suite with another Dr and her receptionist. Everyone gets along great accept the one Dr. we share the suite with has some very hard to live with habits…these include cooking eggs in the microwave at work, and if this is not bad enough sometimes she likes to ad fish to the eggs. barf. I like eggs but the smell first thing in the morning is bad enough to burn your eyes.  The other issue is the sponge, what you ask could possibly be wrong with a sponge. Well nothing if the sponge is changed as soon is it starts to get a little sour. The sponge above is at least 6 months old and so disgustingly smelly that if my cup is draining in the drain board and the sponge is just barely touching it my cups smells horrible.  I have tried bringing in a news sponge and tossing the old one…apparently this is a major sponge offense and caused more issues then it was worth. So I just be sure to keep my stuff out of the drain board.  The other issue is this Dr likes to use everyone else’s milk/creamer. Well I found a solution to that: Soy milk creamer. She doesn’t seem to like it hee hee. That is my thoughts for today as I sip my tea with soy milk creamer…don’t you wish you could have some office drama in your life?

Floating along

26 10 2009
Saturday trying to capture some leaves before they were all "rained" away.

Saturday trying to capture some leaves before they were all "rained" away.

Kind of describes the weather and my mood. It has not stopped raining since last night and it isn’t our normal rain it is a heavy very wet rain. And if you live in Pac NW you understand what I mean about wet rain. Most of the time we have rain you don’t even need serious rain gear, light misty dodge the drops kind. Not this stuff, this is raincoat and rain pants weather. I hope we don’t get more flooding, I am sure everyone would like a flood free winter.
My mood is kind of “meh”. I am trying to be happy about my birthday coming up but I am creeping up on 40 and feel a lack of accomplishment in my life. I will eventually snap out of it but sometimes I feel like a am just drifting through, which was ok in my 20’s and even early 30’s but now that I am in my late 30’s it makes me reflective. Then I think of all the things I have experienced and amazing people I have met and I feel better…
Sunday was fun, I went over to my friends house and “shopped” her amazing collection of halloween costumes and accessories and I have most of mine…still need to go to Goodwill/VV to find Tom’s.
My dad got out of the hospital yesterday and came over and hung out with the dogs while my mom took Tom and me out to birthday dinner at Pepper Sisters. Had a delicious tortilla filled with ricotta cheese, zucchinis and smothered in chipolte sauce with a pepper cream. Oh so good.
Then came home and watched amazing race with my Folks and had Apple Pie and Ice cream from TJ’s that Tom had gotten as a treat.
See how can I be in a blah mood when everyone is being so nice to me for my birthday…

It started out as a nice day…

23 10 2009

…and then things went down hill from there. Actually my life has been nice and normal lately. Not exceptional, kind of boring but I will take boring. I like boring. The week started out well. My biggest stress was trying to figure out a Halloween costume. I got to watch the top 20 picked on So You Think You Can Dance and then my new favorite show Glee was great (despite getting the “thong song” stuck in my head, thank you Glee for that one, I thought I would never have “thong, tha tha thong stuck in my head again). Yesterday I rushed home from a nice day at the office and made a dinner for Tom that he could take to his Class. Then loaded up the dogs in the car and went to Bailey’s Bath House. There was a new Rain Forest Shampoo that smelled lovely and made there dogs coats silky smooth. When I got out of bathing the dogs I noticed one call from my Dad at 5:17 and then many calls from my Mom. Not bothering to check my VM I called my Mom. She had come home from work at 6pm and my dad’s tools were all over the front yard, the front door was unlocked, there was a hospital blanket on the floor, the dog was locked in the bedroom and there were plastic EKG lead covers all over the floor. She had already called St. Jo’s but they had not admitted him yet. So we rushed the dogs over to my house. fed and walked them and headed to the hospital to find my Dad. Following the trail from the ER was pretty scary but thankfully he was in Surgery which was a good sign. So we waited in the Cardiac waiting room from 7 to 10:30pm. Finally the surgeon came out and talked to us and explained that my dad had indeed had heart attack number 3. He had coded twice on the ride from the ER to surgery. 2 more stints and a 4.5 hours of surgery my Dad was out and hopefully on the road to recovery.
Meanwhile I am hoping for a nice boring day today…
